About the Homestead
We were blessed to be able to obtain the homestead in the fall of 2014. It has been a work in progress cleaning it up and getting set up. We always have a project or several going at a time. We currently are working finishing up barns, adding more pasture, putting in hay fields and getting the garden and livestock ready for winter.
We currently have a mixed flock of sheep. Wool sheep are Icelandics and a Romney. Hair sheep are Painted Desert. The first lambs on the homestead started arriving in January 2016. We had a very busy 2016 lambing season.
Our mixed flock of chickens includes-Icelandic, Easter Eggers, Australorp and Barred Rocks. We love our farm fresh eggs. Nothing from the store compares to them! Once you have them you will become an egg snob. We look forward to more chicks hatching in 2017.
Turkeys were added to the homestead this summer. We currently have Bourbon and Bronze for butchering and Black Spanish to raise. Looking forward to the Black Spanish raising little ones next year.
We have been expanding our dairy goat herd. Our goat herd consists Nigerian Dwarfs -Miss Blondie (aka Pinky), Sunshine and her daughter Lopsy and little Miss Lunar. Our Nigerian bucks are Francis Neil Beans and Fidget Our Mini Nubian doe is Baloo and buckling is Benjamin Buttons. Our resident Alpine wether is Claudius the Magnificent. We are so excited for our Spring 2017 kidding season and our first ever goat kids born on the homestead!
